The committed base under everything
Total every cost that repeats — payroll, software, vendors, rent, insurance, subscriptions — into one monthly and annual figure. This is the committed base your revenue has to clear each month before a single discretionary dollar is spent.
Mixed billing is handled for you: a yearly insurance premium is spread across the months it covers, so annual and monthly costs sit on the same scale.
How this fits into your recurring money
Recurring expenses are the floor of a business's finances — the part that arrives on schedule regardless of how the month goes. Knowing the exact figure, not a rough sense of it, is what separates running the business from reacting to it.
That's the job Recurrings does: read the statements, sort the recurring charges, surface the duplicates and the quiet increases, and keep the total current as costs change — so the recurring base is never a guess.
The math
monthly total = Σ ( cost × times billed per year ) ÷ 12 annual total = monthly total × 12
Each cost is normalized to a monthly equivalent and summed — a $9,600/year policy counts as $800/month — so every recurring charge, whatever its cadence, lands in one comparable figure. The annual total is twelve times the monthly base.
Common questions
What belongs here?
Every cost that repeats — software and SaaS, vendors and retainers, payroll, rent, insurance, subscriptions. Leave out one-off purchases; this is the committed recurring base your revenue has to clear each month.
How is this related to burn?
Recurring expenses are the bulk of monthly burn. Totaling them here gives you the figure that sets your run-rate — the number to attack first when you want to extend runway.
Where do the savings usually hide?
In duplicate SaaS, unused seats, auto-renewed contracts, and retainers nobody reviews. Listing everything in one place is what makes those obvious.
